You've meade it to the Tules Luper Journey forum. Game discussion, flames, debate and research results are all part of the stuff you can find here. Solving the mistery of Tulse Luper is the goal. By now you must have played the game. If not, you might want to check out www.tulseluperjourney.com. The games are challenging and can't be finished on your own. You will need all the help you can find. Here is a good place to start.

It seems that many players get a bit confused while playing and endup on the forum in the hope of getting some sort of tutorial. As as start, I will try to clearup some stuff here. This new area "Welcome" will hopefully assist new players in finding their way around. The other area's are "General" for feedback, ideas, and general disccussion and "Games", for discussion of specific suitcases.

The TLJ is still very much in development. This means that while you are playing, we are thinking about new features, fixing bugs, designing new bits and in general trying to make the game better and more fun experience. We are nog doing this alone, but with the help of several great companies and schools throughout europe. To start with: there's us at Submarine in Amsterdam: we are responsible for the overall production of the game and are working on the structure, narrative, interface, login, multiplayer features and some of the suitcase games. Then there are other people who are working on individual suitcases: Opixido in Paris, Moccu in Berlin, UIAH in Finland and more. All of us work with students and partners which means that a lot of people participate in this project. I'm guessing around a hundred sofar. If you want to become part of the developing community, please let me know. And finally, we work with film director Peter Greenaway to ensure that this game is a valuable addition to the Tulse Luper universe.

- So what's the catch?
There is no catch. the TLJ will be available for free for as long as it runs. We can do this because the project is supported by several cultural funds and the efforts of the companies that work on the game.

- How does it work?
I'm not going to be to specific here, because part of the fun is finding it out for yourself. At the moment, we've finished the first level of gameplay. This means that you can research the life of Tulse Luper through the suitcases he left behind. You do this by solving the puzzles which in turn give you information in short movieclips. To complete your movieclip collection and reconstruction of Tulse's life, you will have to interact with other players. One part of this: the exchange of information between players by way of trading confuses a lot of players so i will try to explain it here.

Information on Tulse's life will become scarce and therefore valuable. In the future, a collectible fragment or other item might become a potential source of power and respect. Becoming a good trader is important and you should take some time to get to grips with the system. The actual trade takes place in the community. You can find out if other players have interesting material by clicking on their avatar's trade symbol (a dollarsign) and inspecting their inventory. If you find something you like, you can initiate a trade by clicking on the correct button. (this is changing as we speak, you should be able to find the one i'm talking about) The other party will then receive an alert after which they can enter the trade or decline. You can change the current exchange of items (at the moment: layers and credits) by dragging them to the table. On one side you can see your stake in the bid, on the other side the stake of the other player. Both of you can then take turns, changing the bid, until one player accepts or aborts the trade. You can stay in the trade screen while trading or minimise it. When a trade is succesfully concluded, the new layers will appear highlighted in your laboratory. At the moment, this does nog happen for suitcases you've not opened yet.
That, in short, is it. There are still some glitches with the system, functionally and in the interaction. We are aware of this and will try to improve it along the way. Thanks for all the feedback we've received sofar

- The Laboratory
In your lab you see a horizontal strip with slots for 92 suitcases. One of the goals of the game is to collect all the movieclips and form a 92 minute movie about Tulse Luper. You can select a suitcase and play the game if a small suitcase icon is visible above the slot. Some suitcases are available in your filmstrip but you don''t see the icon. This means you will have to travel to another institute to play them. Some games have a highscore, some you just have to complete. You can come back to the highscore games to compete for a high ranking, which in turn earns you credits. If you succesfully complete a game, you're rewarded with one layer of a movieclip. You can view this layer by clicking on the "watch movie" button. The other controls should speak for themselves.

- What else?
At the moment we're taking a hard look at balancing the game which means that the cost for travel and trading will probably change and you will have to play for a toprank in order to be able to gain access to the suitcases. New games will appear on a regular basis and you will get an email when we put them online.
The next level of the game will introduce some new gameplay elements and reveal more about the mystery of Tulse Luper. In the meantime, enjoy the games and please continue to share your thoughts and feelings on this forum!

Thank you. The little bits of information in your message will be very helpful in attempting the game. After playing around on the site for about 15 minutes, I was confused and not sure that the site was worth continuing on. Knowing some background encourages me.

Thank you. I'm still arrived. I felt a little bit confused, but I'm joyfully trying to be confident with this site and obviously with the game.

Hello Gavin,

Good luck. If you can get the system to not kick you out and make you log back in every time you try to do something, esp. if there more than just you playing, like even one other person, well, you're luckier than I. I'm close to giving up. So sad to see such an amazing concept so poorly executed - bad Java coding and not enough server / system power to back up the code. Awful computer system architecture. So very sad. It's like as if Picasso was stuck drawing with crayons that broke every 30 seconds....
